2013 vintage at Castiglion del Bosco

After a very rainy and cold winter, the vegetative phase began with a slight delay, due to temperatures below the seasonal average, that persisted into early summer. In late August and September the hot days unified the maturation and excellent day-night excursions ensured outstanding polyphenolic evolution. The harvest began on September 18th for the grapes of the lower vineyards and finished on October 7th for the highest ones.

Vinification and ageing

Harvest was carried out by hand with aerated 15 kg boxes. The excellent quality of the grapes, enabled a prolonged maceration, which continued after the fermentation phase. Ageing took place in select French oak barrels for 36 months. Alcohol level is 14.5%.

Winemaker tasting notes

Zodiac Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2013 is a wine of pronounced personality, which highlights the character of a great terroir during a fresh and balanced vintage. Vivid ruby red color, the bouquet is rich with dense fruity notes, enhanced by citrus and mineral scents.Bright freshness and acidity along with a dense but polished tannin texture lead the palate of this great wine toward an elegant and pronounced finish.

“In the painting that I realized for the Zodiac Limited Edition Brunello di Montalcino 2013 Year of the Rat the grapes symbolizes abundance.
The rat looking upwards represents one looking towards a better future while the grape held?in his hand signifies that he is already holding his treasure in his hand.” Aaron Gan
