We are pleased to present our new limited edition bottle from the zodiac collection: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2017 Year of the Dragon.

Originally from Manchester, Alicia France studied at Newcastle University, graduating with a BA Hons degree in Fine Art in 2016. Her subject of specialization is portraiture. Her style is characterized by a passion for illustrations and fine art prints. Alicia’s interest is highly focused on the use of color and how that can evoke emotion and personality in a piece. This has been a great focal point in the design of the label dedicated to the Year of the Dragon. Passionate about traditional Oriental art, Alicia painted this symbolic creature using colors, illustrations, and perspective characteristic of Chinese art and culture, while still managing to give it incredible depth.
The artist incorporated native Montalcino plants into the anatomy of the Dragon itself: oak, beech and vine leaves are a tribute to the landscape of Castiglion Del Bosco.
The hot and dry summer of the 2017 vintage certainly characterized the ripening of the grapes. Compared to other areas of the denomination Castiglion del Bosco was distinguished with varied rains at the beginning of September. This mitigated the summer heat slowed the phenolic ripening especially in the upper part of Capanna. It also allowed to avoid the risk of over-ripening and helped maintaining a good acid level. In Castiglion del Bosco, just like the whole denomination, the harvest began in advance compared to the usual.
“Year of the Dragon Riserva 2017 is a wine of great aromatic intensity. The heat of summer has given structure, energy and great complexity. Thanks to the long aging, notes of licorice and rhubarb stand out and remain present throughout the long sip of this wine. Orange peel and flint complete its olfactory richness. Full and balanced palate with excellent acid retention allowing an elegant and harmonious finish.”

JAMES SUCKLING – 96 points
Dried red plums, potpourri, and torched rosemary, followed by orange zest, tree bark and almonds with subtle balsamic undertones. Medium-bodied, refreshing acidity with superb fine-grained tannins. Succulent and zesty finish. Excellent focus and density overall. Very precise. It shows a beautiful drinkability now but can age even further. Already lovely to drink now but better in two years.
