ZODIAC COLLECTION

YEAR OF THE RABBIT

We are pleased to present our new limited edition bottle from the zodiac collection: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 Year of the Rabbit.

THE ARTIST

As we do every year, we wisely selected the artist who would be in charge of the label making. This year’s artist is Leila Dear.

The artist is Leila Dear, Alumni of The School of Traditional Arts in London, graduating in 2012, where she specialised in manuscript illumination, geometry, and sacred symbology. Leila works directly with materials and inspiration from the natural world. Often grinding her own pigments from minerals and foraged ochres. Her work seeks to cultivate an embodied understanding of nature’s patterns.

THE LABEL

The label for the Year of the Rabbit is based on an ancient motif, a visual riddle originating in China and found throughout the world. The three rabbits symbolise peace, tranquillity, and good fortune.

2016 VINTAGE

Characterized by mild winter and spring with higher than average minimum temperatures. This led to a slight advance in budding and a beautiful vegetative expression of the vines. In addition the summer was cool and mild, slowing down the ripening which continued slowly and very well. Ripe tannins, richness in color and good acidity have therefore characterized the Sangiovese of this excellent vintage. The harvest began slightly earlier and ended however around mid-October as often happens in great vintages. In conclusion there is an excellent balance in the aging of Sangiovese, this should lead to rich but also very elegant wines.

TASTING NOTES

“This Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 is a true masterpiece, encapsulating integrity and finesse. On the nose there are intense hints of red berry fruits such as cherries and plums, enriched by balsamic notes. On the palate, the balance between ripe tannins and acidity makes it a truly enjoyable wine. A final persistence invites to taste it again. This wine is perfect with red meats, aged cheeses and pasta with hare sauce. Should be served at a temperature of 18-20°C to best enhance its complexity.”

JAMES SUCKLING – 98 points

“A fabulous late release of the legendary 2016 vintage. It’s subtle and complex on the nose with flowers, orange peel, roses, and hot stones. Yet so refined and complex. The nose is super. The palate is so dense yet agile, with a featherweight sense to it. Great finish. Try after 2027 and onwards.”
